Founded in 2004, we’ve become West Michigan’s archery destination, carrying and servicing traditional bows, crossbows, and compounds. since then, we've grown our hunting and fishing gear to better serve West Michigan’s legendary hunting and fishing community. Matt Poliski

Owner

Matt started shooting a bow at 6 years old and has been bow hunting since 1998. Matt has tuned and worked in depth on bows at Grand Valley Sporting Goods since 2007 and is a Certified Bow Technician for Hoyt, Bowtech, Mathews, PSE, TenPoint, and other brands. An avid hunter and outdoorsman, Matt has so far been to Ontario, Missouri, Wyoming, Montana, and Colorado. He is married with 3 kids who also shoot.

Jon Schultze

Store Manager, Fishing Manager, Bow Technician

A current Archery Professor at Grand Valley State University, Jon started here at the bow shop in 2011. Jon is a Certified Level 2 Archery Instructor and Safe Sport Certified. As a fisherman, Jon has been trolling the Great Lakes since 1996.

Tyler Rhoades

Service Manager, Target Shooting Pro Staff Coordinator, Bow Technician

Tyler started working at Grand Valley Sporting Goods in 2018 but started in the archery industry in 2014. Tyler is a Certified Level 2 USA Archery Instructor, Safe Sport Certified, and Tech certified through PSE Archery. Tyler is an especially knowledgeable source on all things target archery.

Colton Blanchard

Sales Manager, Social Media Manager, Bow Technician

Before starting here at GVSG in 2017, Colton started in the archery and shooting industry in 2010. He began bow hunting even earlier, in 2006. Colton has a passion for firearms and optics, how they work, and what makes them better. He loves the science behind what makes a bow and a shooter more efficient. He also enjoys getting new archers of all ages into the sport.

Bullseye Bill

Traditional Archery Expert

Bullseye Bill has been shooting exclusively traditional gear since the late '70s. He has hunted successfully from Ontario to Mexico, and a few places in-between. If he is not working on bows, building arrows, or talking about bows, then he is on the range shooting his bow!

Luke Kleinrichert

Bow Technician, Customer Service

Luke has been hunting since 2011 and bow-hunting since 2014. In addition, he has been fishing since he could hold a rod and fly-fishing since 2010. He also teaches sailing classes in the summer and races sailboats competitively.

Allie Hawkes

Marketing Campaign Coordinator, Customer Service

Allie has worked in the outdoor industry for 4 years, starting at D&R Sports and now at Grand Valley Sporting Goods during her GVSU school year. She enjoys a variety of outdoor activities including fishing, hiking, archery, and camping. Additional passions of hers include competing in CrossFit tournaments and learning about health and wellness. One of her goals for the future is to find ways to combine her love for nature with her degree in management and marketing sales.

Clay Russell

Bow Technician, Customer Service

Clay started shooting in the youth league here at 8 years old. In 2016, he started working here at the bow shop and continued to work through high school, college, and now weekends after graduating from Ferris State University. Clay loves outdoor 3D shoots and has also successfully hunted Colorado and Texas multiple times. In addition to shooting, Clay has 14+ years experience fishing the Detroit River

Tyler Holleman

Bow Technician, Customer Service

T.J. has been fishing, hunting, and shooting bows since he was just a child. He enjoys Ice fishing in the winter, turkey hunting in the spring, bass fishing in the summer, and of course, deer hunting in the fall. T.J. is a student at GVSU and works at Grand Valley Sporting Goods during the school year. T.J. enjoys the camaraderie that hunting and fishing brings to family and friends. He enjoys sharing his passion by helping customers, young and old, get into the outdoors. T.J. started working here in August of 2023.

Drew Bruursema

Bow Technician, Customer Service

Drew has been hunting since he was very young, taking his first deer with a bow at 10 years old. Drew is passionate about whitetail hunting and likes traveling to new states to hunt. He loves the components and accessories that makeup archery and looks to continue to grow his knowledge of them and the outdoors as a whole.

Wade Paris

Inventory Manager

Wade has hunted since he was a kid and began bow hunting in 2018 after graduating college and gaining some extra free time. Since then, it has developed into a passion. It has led him to volunteer as President of the West Central Branch of the National Deer Association where they support new hunters through education and mentorship, improve public land habitat, and provide educational opportunities to the hunting community. Wade is married with two kids and loves watching their excitement for the outdoors develop.

Rhonen Fynewever

Customer Service

Rhonen has been involved in the outdoors since he was 9 years old and began using a bow for hunting when he was 13. He enjoys hunting for whitetail deer and fishing for bass, walleye, and panfish. Recently, he has started getting into the competitive side of archery. This past summer, Rhonen shot in a tournament in North Carolina and also shot leagues here at Grand Valley Sporting Goods!

CO-FOUNDERS

Gary and Vern have been good friends for decades and have hunted together for a long time. In 2004, they decided to put together their passions and open a sporting goods store. Grand Valley Sporting Goods started small, but quickly grew into West Michigan's Archery Destination.
